Iranian animation ‘Song Sparrow’ to vie in Spain

Iranian animation ‘Song Sparrow’ is to compete at the 2021 Palencia Int’l filmfest in Spain.

Iranian animation ‘Song Sparrow’ has been selected to compete at the 30th edition of the Palencia International Film Festival (PIFF) in Spain.

Produced, written, and directed by Farzaneh Omidvarnia, the short animation is about a group of refugees in search of a better life in another place.

They pay someone to smuggle them across the border in a fridge truck.

However, the freezing temperature of the truck turns their hopes for a better future into a fierce struggle for survival.

‘Song Sparrow’ uses puppet animation to tell a tense tale based on an actual event that happened in Austria in 2015.

The PIFF welcomes international films from around the world and provides filmmakers with a chance to showcase their works.

The 30th edition of the PIFF is slated for February 26-March 6, 2021.
